Affecting more than eight million Americans each year, carpal tunnel syndrome rankles athletes and office workers alike, leading to debilitating pain. Though many cases of carpal tunnel syndrome can resolve with rest, your life often doesn’t allow for such a recovery period. At Better Health Solutions in Scottsdale, Arizona, your provider understands the importance of minimally invasive recovery and provides carpal tunnel relief that doesn’t interfere with your routine. Along your forearm, down to your wrist, runs a nerve called the median nerve. This nerve passes through a small passageway into your hand called the carpal tunnel. When your median nerve becomes squeezed or pinched within the carpal tunnel, the result is pain, numbness, or tingling, collectively called carpal tunnel syndrome.
Carpal tunnel symptoms tend to start gradually, and your initial symptoms might be as minor as some occasional numbness in your thumb or index and middle fingers. As the condition progresses, this tingling or numbness can occur more frequently and start traveling along your fingers and wrist up to your arm.
In time, you might lose strength in the hands affected by carpal tunnel, and the pain caused by the condition might be great enough to rouse you from sleep.
Before providing treatment, a team member first provides an ultrasound scan of your wrist to determine the extent of your carpal tunnel and whether there are any more serious conditions to blame, such as a bone spur or bone deformation.
Once diagnosed, your provider might suggest manual adjustments, electrical stimulation, or ultrasound treatment for your carpal tunnel.
Physical manipulation of your wrist and hand can relieve pain and reduce inflammation, improving mobility and allowing you to continue recovery.
Electrostimulation of your wrist and hand allows your provider to reach “deeper” muscles and tendons for pain relief. Dr. Khayami might provide this treatment if manual therapy proves too painful or ineffective.
A relatively new treatment option, ultrasound therapy uses ultrasound waves to promote blood flow. This jump-starts your body’s natural healing process, leading to quicker recovery.
Following initial pain relief, your provider recommends adopting a wrist exercise and stretching routine for further recovery. These exercises are also excellent for helping prevent carpal tunnel syndrome in the first place.
If carpal tunnel syndrome is hindering your work and keeping you from the activities you love, let Better Health Solutions provide effective family care chiropractic treatment for your recovery. Call to schedule your consultation or book online.
